The number of foreign visitors to Vietnam in the first quarter grew dramatically.

More than 2 million international visitors to Vietnam this March helped raise the total number of visitors in the first quarter of 2025 nationwide to over 6 million, the highest ever (up 29.6% compared to the first quarter of 2024).

International arrivals to Vietnam in March reached more than 2.05 million (up nearly 29% over the same period in 2024). In the first quarter, the country welcomed more than 6 million visitors (up nearly 30% over the same period last year), the highest number of visitors in a quarter ever. The number of Vietnamese people leaving the country reached 2.7 million (2.2 times higher than the same period in 2024). This is the data announced by the General Statistics Office this morning, April 6.

Among the 10 largest tourism markets of Vietnam, China leads with 1.58 million arrivals; South Korea is in second place with 1.26 million arrivals. These two markets contribute 47% of the total number of visitors to Vietnam.

Following are the following markets: Taiwan (331 thousand arrivals), the US (259 thousand arrivals), Cambodia (234 thousand arrivals), Japan (226 thousand arrivals), Australia (147 thousand arrivals), India (143 thousand arrivals), Malaysia (141 thousand arrivals), Russia (125 thousand arrivals).

In addition, the Polish and Swiss markets also recorded an increase in the number of visitors, up 52.9% and 14.1% respectively compared to the same period in 2024. This positive result is considered to be influenced by the Government’s issuance of Resolution 11/NQ-CP on short-term visa exemption for Polish, Czech and Swiss citizens from March 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025 under the 2025 Tourism Development Stimulus Program. The policy is expected to create momentum to attract more visitors from these three European markets this year.

Following the 98% recovery of international visitors in 2024, the number of international visitors to Vietnam in the first quarter of 2025 reached over 6 million, an increase of 134% over the same period in 2019. This is also the highest number of international visitors in a quarter ever.

In order to realize the goal of welcoming 22-23 million international visitors this year, the tourism industry is focusing on vigorously implementing the 2025 tourism development stimulus program launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as well as innovating promotion methods, improving service quality, and increasing the attractiveness of Vietnam’s tourism products and destinations./.
